Rumor: Konami involved in Guitar Hero for arcades

wtf-cat

In a move that would be… odd, to say the least, Konami is involved with the arcade edition of Activision-Blizzard’s Guitar Hero franchise. While arcade development regular Raw Thrills will be developing the game itself, Konami is supposedly developing the actual cabinet for the game. At the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions exhibit in Orlando, Florida which starts this Tuesday, the new cabinet is rumored to be unveiled.

Citing a “very reliable source,  BemaniStyle.com, a rhythm game enthusiast site posted the news along with some specifications of the cabinet.

“So far, our source has stated the cabinet is going to feature 8-10 speakers, more than 500 LED lights and a 32″ monitor. The cabinet is also reportedly slated to take advantage of Internet connections to provide online cash tournaments sometime starting in 2009.”

The move would be a little strange because of Konami’s own guitar-themed rhythm game GuitarFreaks and its prominence in arcades specifically since 1998.
